The Royal Proclamation of 1763

The British essentially tell the Americans that they cannot travel past the Appalachians. The British fear a continuance of small scale violence that will further burden the massive debt that was incured during the Seven Years War. Also designed to keep colonists close to the coast to make them reliant on the British for trade. The elite are now furious because they were paid in land for fighting in the Seven Year War that they cannot access anymore due to it being outside of the region dictated by the Royal Proclamation. Thomas Paine publishes essay calling for abolition of slavery.

In Pennsylvania Journal and Weekly Advertiser Thomas Paine argues against slavery by asking the Americans why they find slavery ok if they are about to revolt due to feeling enslaved by the British Crown.

1774

The Offer

Virginia's governer Lord Dunmore is approached by enslaved black people to offer their loyalty to him and the British Crown and fight against the American rebels. In exchange for their freedom. He denies this request.

1775

The Acceptance

Lord Dunmore takes up the slaves request. They became known as the Ethiopian Regiment and were made up of about 200 men that escaped from slave camps. After winning a battle an emancipation proclamation was issued by Lord Dunmore to offer freedom to any slaves that escape and fight for the British Crown.
